I often get the question from my shorter ladies... “How do I make myself look taller without having to wear heels all the time?” Well, I am a shortie myself, (5’1 and a 1/2 😎) so I get it and wanted to share with you a few of my tricks! I LOVE HEELS, but let’s be honest, my lifestyle of a full-time working mommy doesn’t always suit wearing them. I can get away with a chunky heel all day, but a stiletto?..... please. lol. Creating a shape that suits your body type can be tricky. My go to rule is “if fitted on top, wide and loose at the bottom.” OR “if fitted at the bottom, wide and oversized at the top”. An unwritten rule in shaping, if you’re doing an oversized outerwear piece (coat/jacket/blazer) aim to keep your top fitted to accentuate your highlights. One of my favorite things to do with style is create illusions and below I am going to give you my top 3 secrets!

1. Vertical lines to lengthen

Now this trick may have been something you’ve heard of in the past at some point, but it’s true! Vertical lines will make anyone, no matter the height look taller. On the flip side to that, horizontal lines will make you look wider, so be cautious. With vertical lines, think dresses or pants to give you the length you’re seeking!

2. Shape

Like mentioned above, pick where you want to be fitted, and oversize the opposite. Fitted top, oversize the bottom; fitted bottom, oversize the top. Also to add shape, use a belt to define any oversized top or blazer.

...and a little in between with and oversized coat and belted jean, with a semi fitted top

3. Platform shoe

This trick has been a gift from heaven. I love a good platform sneaker/shoe, and luckily these days they are designing them to be staples that can be worn with anything. Plus they are so comfy! Remember....buy essentials, not trends! You can turn your essentials into trends. (more on that😉)
