I learned early the importance of an authentic appearance. I often got caught up in wearing what everyone else wore, or the latest trends because it was easy. You don’t have to think about what works for you when you are getting anything that’s “on trend”.
My issue with trends was they never fit me quite right. I was never truly confident when I was out and about. How it looked on a friend or on a mannequin at the local mall, did not translate well on me. I felt like I was drawing in attention that was not an accurate reflection of me.
It was then that I realized the importance of body type and how to use foundational and functional pieces to style for my body and personality. I began to appreciate and love myself a lot more when I found my way of sharing who I was through my clothes.
I ultimately created authenticity in my wardrobe by learning that style was not wearing just the “latest”, but how to take the foundation and functionality in clothes to curate a look that was just for me!
